Build a level history that accounts for refill
Record existing water-level observations alongside rain, ordinary use, maintenance and known refill activity. An automatic refill can keep the surface looking steady while water is being added. A photograph of a full pool therefore does not explain how much water it received or whether an unexplained loss remains.
Identify the pool and spa separately if their levels behave differently. Provide the documented operating arrangement where available; do not change unfamiliar valves or controls to create a comparison. A shared pool also needs its authorized facility contact.
A comparison can indicate loss without locating it
EPA describes comparing pool loss with a water-filled bucket under similar conditions as a way to investigate unexplained water loss. Rain, refill and operation affect interpretation. Ask the pool professional how the proposed comparison accounts for those conditions; a result does not identify a fitting or buried line by itself.
Further assessment may concern an accessible fitting, the shell, refill equipment or a circulation section. Ask which question each proposed test answers. Do not drain the pool, remove a return fitting or perform underwater repairs to search for the cause.
Match the recommendation to the assessed component
A finding at a fitting and a finding involving buried circulation plumbing can require different access and repair work. The proposal should identify the component, supporting evidence and any section not assessed. A refill adjustment should not be presented as proof that every pool circuit is sound.
- Name the pool, spa and connecting sections included.
- Separate detection findings from the proposed repair.
- Identify any deck or landscape opening and its permission.
- Agree how the repaired component will be checked and finishes reinstated.
Know which water system the appointment covers
Household piping and pool equipment should remain separate inquiries where they use different testing or access. If both have symptoms, record each rather than combining them into one presumed underground break. Our slab leak guide addresses a different source question.
A Port Royal inquiry should specify the actual pool and its access contact. Wetness tied to a watering zone may instead need irrigation assessment. Confirm the accepted components and diagnostic charge before the visit.
Questions before you call
Does every falling water level mean leakage?
Evaporation, use and maintenance can change the level. A useful comparison accounts for those conditions before further component testing is selected.
Why separate pool and spa observations?
Different level patterns help define which feature or connecting arrangement needs assessment. They do not identify a failed component without further evidence.
Does more refill water solve the source problem?
Refill replaces water. Ask what identifies and addresses any unexplained loss rather than treating a restored surface level as a completed repair.
