Testing is proposed before the source is narrowed
Ask what question the thermal or acoustic test will answer and what would corroborate it. Thermal imaging records surface temperature, not water inside walls.
Choose the question before choosing the instrument
A general request for a scan may leave the actual source question unclear. Explain the reported surface, sound or water-use symptom and the possible system involved. Thermal and acoustic observations can guide investigation, but an instrument name alone does not define which circuits, rooms or competing causes will be assessed.
Ask what a result would change
Clarify what evidence would support a pipe repair, further access or a different source inquiry. The recipient should identify how moisture or line evidence will corroborate the observations and what would remain unresolved. A broad survey should not be described as a complete diagnosis when its accepted scope cannot answer the original question.
What the chosen detection method establishes
Clarify access limits so a general scan is not mistaken for a full diagnosis. Acoustic findings depend on conditions and need corroborating evidence.
