A stain has sources on more than one floor
Describe the vertical room positions if known without entering another residence. Thermal imaging records surface temperature, not water inside walls.
Describe the vertical positions accurately
Where a mark may have sources on different floors, provide the room positions that are already known. Do not enter another residence to investigate. A scan of the affected surface can guide the inquiry, but it cannot by itself establish which upper-floor fixture or line caused the temperature pattern.
Ask which possible source was actually assessed
The findings should distinguish accessed rooms and confirmed moisture from suspected but untested spaces. If several sources remain plausible, ask what authorized evidence would separate them. Choosing a repair opening solely below the visible stain may answer a different question from locating the originating fault.
What the chosen detection method establishes
Ask how the investigation accounts for multiple possible sources and permissions between floors. Acoustic findings depend on conditions and need corroborating evidence.
